Strategy Is Key
Although the player can obtain and use weapons in Mirror's Edge, the developers have stated that combat is really a secondary element in the game. They say the gameplay is focused more on finding the most efficient routes through the city and avoiding conflict rather than facing it head-on. In fact, carrying weapons can actually hinder the players ability to get through certain environments and can slow them down, depending on the weight of the weapon. Getting through the entire story mode of the game without using a weapon will unlock the achievement, Test of Faith. All of the levels also have various routes that can be taken, leaving the player free to choose how best to navigate the city. Shortcuts can be found by simply taking a step a back and really analyzing the environment. These shortcuts are key to getting the player through levels safely and help in achieving top times in the Time-Attack mode.Wikipedia: Mirror's Edge

Prologue
- YouTube: Mirror's Edge Walkthrough - Training Tutorial (Time: 8:10)
- CUTSCENE: The camera pans over the city and centers behind Faith. The city has been going through heavy turmoil. Anyone that protests against the city-wide authority is thrown into jail. These protestors become clients for the runners, like Faith. Runners see the city differently than regular people and understand the natural flow.
- When you gain control of Faith, take a second to get used to the controls and follow the on-screen prompts. All usable objects on the map are marked as red. When ready, run straight ahead and push LB to jump at the red ramp. Hold LT to slide under the metal vent.
- Turn right and press B to focus on the blond girl in the distance. Run down the red boards and jump off the ramp onto the next platform. You will meet up with Celeste who runs away from you. Follow her. Run straight ahead and jump off the red ramp with LB. Jump over the fence with LB as well.
- Follow her lead and wall run (LB) across the red sign on the left. Speed vault over the red vent with LB when getting close. Break through the door ahead with RT and follow Celeste over the red pipe using LS to control balance.
- TIP: Move slowly across the beam if you are having trouble balancing.
- Move toward the building and press LB to wall climb. Run up the stairs and leap off the building ahead. Use LB to automatically grab the red piping. Control Faith's swinging motion with LS. LB releases Faith and RB turns her around.
- Swing forward and use LB to grab the pipe attached to the wall. Use RS to look around and LB to leap to the pipe on the left. Continue to the left and use LB to wall climb. Shimmy to the left and around the corner with LS.
- Watch Celeste, as Faith needs to mimic her. The combo is LB, RB, LB to jump, turn and jump to the opposite ledge in mid-air. Press the bumpers in rapid succession to perform it successfully. Wall Climb the building to the left and use LS to shimmy along the edge next to the blue wall.
- Run up the ramp and use LB to grab the zip-line. Time the release carefully by pressing LT before Faith crosses over the padded landing zone. This minimizes the damage Faith takes when dropping from high places.
- Run straight ahead and jump off the red boards with LB. Hold LT in the air to keep away from the barbed wire. Run and jump off the second ramp with LB Right before Faith hits the ground, hit LT to execute another skillroll.
- Use the sacks on the ground as a springboard and launch Faith to the broken ladder. Use LB to grab the ledge above Faith and walk up to Celeste.
- Celeste starts to teach Faith about sparring. Follow the onscreen prompts to proceed through the tutorial. Faith learns how to punch , kick, jump-kick. LT/RT = slidekick. Run + LB + RT = jump kick. RT = punch. LT + RT = low punch. Run + LB + LT + RT = drop kick.
- Celeste will now teach you to disarm weapons. Y = standard weapon disarm. RT = fire. Y = frontal disarm when the weapon turns red. X = slow motion "Reaction time." X + Y = Reaction Time disarm.
- This completes the opening prologue and general knowledge section of the game. You have the choice of moving to the next level or sticking around to explore.
