• MGM (Metro Goldwyn Mayer) was founded on April 16, 1924. It is tied with Columbia Pictures as the fifth oldest motion picture company. When it was in its heyday, from the end of the silent film era through World War II, MGM released the greatest number of films of any studio. It released at least one feature film per week as well as several short films and serials.

• Technicolor

  MGM was one of the first studios to film with Technicolor. The first feature completely filmed in Technicolor was The Viking, but there was no dialogue and only a score and sound effects. The first fully Technicolor and “all talking" film was The Rogue, a 1930’s musical. Two of MGMs most successful Technicolor features are The Wizard of Oz'' and Gone with the Wind''.
