There has been rumors of a leaked script for MGS4, more specifically the leaked ending of the game, circulating on various forums. It has attracted a lot of attention, however it has been confirmed that the circulated script is fake. Most fans of the series were skeptical as to its authenticity due in part to the inconsistencies of the storyline and with statements released by Konami. One of the biggest inconsistencies is the fact that the script spoilers claim two playable characters, when Konami has confirmed that Snake is the only playable character. The script also alleges that Meryl dies in the game, prior to having a conversation at the end of the game with Vamp. Despite the fact that it's fake, many fans are upset since there is a possibility that it still could contain spoilers.

Leaked Script Ending
- There are 5 locations in the game: Middle East, South America, Shadow Moses, the Russian steppe, and the end of the game in Asia, where the events occurred in MGS2, Zanzibar
- Snake dies
- The following characters die, apart from Snake: Raiden, Meryl, Campbell and Otacon
- Liquid Ocelot does not die
- Eva kills Meryl at the end of the stretch of game that takes place in South America
- Raiden is playable in the period of the Russian steppe. While Snake in Zanzibar is chasing Liquid Ocelot (after their fight in Shadow Mosses), Raiden is looking for a part of the legacy of philosophers who stayed in Russia
- Naomi is the killer of Otacon. She is one of the main villains in the game
- Raiden dies in Russia.
- In the final fight in Zanzibar, either Big Boss or his remains, appears
- Solid Snake is, in fact, a patriot. He was the main benefactor of Philanthropy
- After the final fight, everything is destroyed. You see the body of Snake, but not Liquid Ocelot.
- At the end there is a codec conversation between Meryl and Vamp talking about how everything has finished. This data can only be created by Patriots.
- The role of the daughter of Olga is shocking.
