Round 10
- Mayweather catches Hatton with a left hook and down goes Hatton after colliding with the ring post. The referee steps in and stops it - Mayweather landing several straight on head shots to win the fight with a KO. MAYWEATHER WINS
Round 9
- So Hatton comes back with a flurry trying to brawl with Mayweather, but Floyd does a great job of defensive fighting, using his jab to keep Hatton away from landing successive combinations. Mayweather seems to be growing in confidence. Compubox stats show Hatton landed zero punches in the round despite bringing the fight to Mayweather. The round goes to Mayweather.
Round 8
- A lot of close in-fighting as Mayweather is landing shots and then stuns him with a blistering right hand that snapped Hatton's head backwards like it was snapped off. Mayweather dominating this round, and now Hatton desperately trying to stay alive. Mayweather dominates the round.
Round 7
- Mayweather continues to dominate in the middle of the ring, and Hatton continues to dominate in the corner. Mayweather tends to be just holding on trying to get through the round. Then Mayweather lands a stiff right hook near the end of the round, but all follow up attempts by Mayweather are slipped under by Hatton. Mayweather wins the round 10-9.
Round 6
- Hatton just penalized 1 point by the regeree for hitting Mayweather in the back of the head. It's a slugfest now, but Mayweather is delivering stunning blows, but they aren't effecting Hatton at all. Mayweather just tied up Hatton at the end of the round and hit Hatton on the back of the head but WASN'T penalized. Round is even.
Round 5
- Hatton still is moving forward as Mayweather tries to chop him down, Hatton moving side-to-side. Hatton is slipping the jab and pushing Mayweather into the corner. It's getting chippy at the end of the round, resembling more of a back street brawl than a boxing match. The referee is now issuing warning to Mayweather's corner between rounds. Hatton wins the round.
Round 4
- First minute was all Hatton, good punches against Mayweather within the ropes, but Mayweather is rising up with several effective straight punches. Mayweather lands several combinations in the middle of the ring. Mayweather did a better job in the end of the round with counter punching. Mayweather takes the round 10-9.
Round 3
- A lot of clutch and grab by Mayweather, then in the last minute of the round Mayweather delivered several efficient hook shots, drawing blood above Hatton's right eye. Still, Hatton is the aggressor, and is constantly in Mayweather's kitchen. HBO's Jim Lampley makes a great line about the referee never having worked harder than this fight so far. Hatton wins that round.
Round 2
- More intense action. Early on, Mayweather lands a stiff right hand knocking Hatton backwards.Back and forth from both fighters, and the referee even had to step in and warn both fighters about illegal tactics. Near end of the round, Hatton was landing more punches in combination. Mayweather won that round 10-9.
Round 1
- What tremendous action! Floyd starts off with a series of straight right hands, but Hatton kept coming and was able to land some great counter punches. Floyd actually stumbled after one straight round. Hatton slight edge in first round.
Pre-Fight
- The intensity of the crowd, mostly British, is leaping through the screen. Tom Jones singing God Save the Queen is setting the bar very high for this fight. And the Brits are booing the American anthem? The celebs are out in force: Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, Tiger Woods, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, and Gwen Stefani are all in attendance, along with many others.
- So in comes Mayweather with Wayne Newton and Mark Cuban holding his title belts. This after Hatton's entrance to wild cheers from the largely partisan Hatton crowd.
Daniel Ponce De Leon vs. Eduardo Escobedo
- Ponce De Leon wins in a unanimous decision.
- 12th Round - Escobedo is effective with counter punhces, but hasn't thrown enough of them. We await the judges decision.
- 11th Round - The commentators are making a big deal about Escobedo's 'clutch-and-grab' tactics. Escobedo has landed some straight shots, but Ponce De Leon is also very wild in his style. As we head to the final round, it's apparent that Escobedo needs a knockout to win.
- 10th Round - Escobedo's punches (when he throws them) are much sharper than earlier in the fight. Escobedo wins the round.
- 9th Round - Escobedo trying to continue to work on the cut above Ponce De Leon's right eye. DeLeon is in control according the HBO scorecard, landing 28% of his punches to Escobedo's 21%.
- 8th Round - Escobedo's game plan of fighting defensive and jabbing away is working. Ponce De Leon is beginning to tire and he's got a mouse over his right eye. Still, De Leon wins the round.
- 7th Round - The action continues to ebb and flow with Ponce De Leon more the aggressor and Escobedo playing defensive boxing. Short of a knockout by Escobedo, Ponce De Leon is in control of this fight. HBO gives Escobedo the round.
- 6th Round - Now Escobedo has stepped up the action, and lands several impressive combinations. It seems everytime Ponce De Leon wants to brawl, Escobedo jumps in and out of the action, but continues to land effective straight rights. Easilt Escobedo's best round.
- 5th Round - The action heats up, and both fighters are able to land effective combinations. Still, Ponce De Leon is sharper, and Escobedo seems to be more defensive in his movements. Ponce De Leon is able to win another round.
- 4th Round - Again, more of the same, in between rounds Escobedo's corner was continuing to encourage him to counter punch and move.
- 3rd Round - Again, Ponce De Leon is the agressor, and finally seems to be lnading shots on Escobedo, who continues to ride the bike, although Escobedo continues to to counter punch effectively. DeLeon has won the last 2 rounds.
- 2nd Round - Like the opening 3 minutes, De Leon tries to cut down the ring as Escobedo is bicycling around the ring. Each De Leon tries to score in-close combos, they get tied up.
- 1st Round: Ponce De Leon was the agressor, landing several early combinations from his southpaw style, especially with a straight left jab. But Escobdeo landed effective defensive jabs, and they score the first round 10-9 Escobedo.
- Two up-and-coming bantamweights, fight dubbed El Mas Macho. No one has enjoyed Larry Merchant over the years more than me, but it's time for him to watch at home.
Wes Ferguson vs. Edner Cherry
- 6th Round - A combination by Cherry sends Ferguson down and Ferguson gets standing 8 count. Cherry trying to seize the moment with multiple combinations. Second knockdown by Cherry and Ferguson can't get up. FIGHT OVER BY KNOCKOUT.
- 5th Round - Without question the best round from both fighters so far, each landing multiple combinations. Stewart again gave the edge to Ferguson.
- 4th Round - A lot of movement, but neither fighter really separating themselves. According to CompuBox stats, neither fighter has landed more than 25% of thei punches. Ferguson wins the 4th round 10-9.
- 3rd Round - the pace began to slow. Mostly jabs, Ferguson wins 3rd round 10-9.
- 2nd Round the action picked up, each fighter scored good combinations. Stewart scored the round even 10-10, although he expressed concern about Cherry's pace.
- 1st round scored by Emmanuel Stewart, HBO Commentator, for Ferguson 10-9.
- This is a rematch of a lightweight fight that Ferguson won previously.
