• Actress Marcia Gay Harden won the Oscar in 2000 for her portrayal of Lee Krasner in Pollack, and was nominated a second time in 2003 in the same category for Mystic River. She has also appeared in the Coen Brothers film Miller's Crossing, as Christopher McCandless' mother in Into the Wild and as Edith Irving in The Hoax.

  • Career Background

    Harden started her career in the early 1980s, acting mainly on television, doing guest appearances in shows such as Simon and Simon. After her first major film appearace in Miller's Crossing, she landed a variety of supporting performances in films such as The Spitfire Grill, Spy Hard, Flubber and Meet Joe Black.

    After winning the Oscar in 2000 for her role the Ed Harris biopic of painter Jackson Pollack, Harden started to find more opportunities for larger roles in mainstream films. In 2007, she made four films, including the Frank Darabont adaptation of the Stephen King story The Mist and the teen thriller The Invisible. She can also be seen in the 2008 film The Lonely Maiden and in the Lifetime original film Sex and Lies in Sin City.
