• NASA announced the final flight of the space shuttle program would take place in 2010, four months ahead of the retirement schedule.
    1. Scheduled final flight date: May 31, 2010
    2. Ten final missions planned between July 2008 and May 2010
    3. Shuttle fleet is 27 years old
    4. Final flight will carry spare parts for the International Space Station
    5. Three shuttles remain in service: Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour
    6. Total lifetime missions: Endeavour 25, Atlantis 32 and Discovery 38
    7. Program began on April 12, 1981
