Major League Baseball All-Star outfielder Ken Griffey, Jr. is currently a free agent began his MLB career in 1989 with the Seattle Mariners before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 2000. He is also the son of former MLB player Ken Griffey Sr.

Griffey was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 1987. From 1989 to 1999, He put up impressive numbers with 1,752 hits, 398 home runs, and 1,152 RBIs/ He was voted the American League MVP in 1997. Griffey won numerous awards and was considered one of the best players in the league while playing for the Mariners.Cincinnati Reds
After the 1999 season, Griffey expressed interest in moving to Cincinnati (the town he grew up in) to be closer to his family. Griffey was traded to the Reds prior to the start of the 2000 season. Griffey's tenure in Cincinnati saw his numbers decline from what they were in Seattle. He has also been plagued by injuries for much of his time with the Reds, limiting his playing time and production. The Reds have yet to reach the playoffs since acquiring Griffey. On June 9, 2008, Griffey hit his 600th career home run against the Florida Marlins. On October 29, 2008, the Chicago White Sox announced that they would not attempt to re-sign Ken Griffey Jr. The White Sox traded for Griffey at the trade deadline to help with the 2008 playoff push.
