• Kansas City is actually three separate cities at the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers. It is also the 39th most populous city in the United States and the largest city in the state of Missouri. Kansas City was founded in 1838 as the "Town of Kansas" and was incorporated in 1850. The city is known for its contributions to jazz and blues music as well as its cuisine of Kansas City-style barbecue. Several battle of the Civil War were also fought in the city.

    In March 2009, Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders said that he feared the city would lose their professional sports teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals, due to a proposed city budget which would cut funds usually allocated to sports programs annually.KMBC: Sanders Worried About Losing Chiefs, Royals

  • Downtown

    The downtown area of Kansas City is currently under a period of redevelopment. A new entertainment district with various restaurants, bars, and stores will be nearing completion. The area (known as the Power & Light District) will be the center of culture and events for the city. It will also be one of only five places in the U.S. to allow people to carry open containers of alcohol.
