• Joe Nuxhall was a Major League Baseball pitcher and announcer with the Cincinnati Reds. He passed away on November 15, 2007 after battling cancer. For Opening Day 2008, the Reds honored Nuxhall in pregame ceremonies. Each Reds player wore a jersey with Nuxhall's name across the back, as well as his #41 during pregame warm-ups. Reds pitcher Aaron Harang wore his Nuxhall jersey during the game.

    Joe Nuxhall signed a major league contract with the Cincinnati Reds on February 18, 1944. He made his debut on June 10, giving up five walks, two hits, and five runs in a single inning before being relieved. Although he spent the rest of the season in the minors, Nuxhall remains the youngest player to play in a modern era MLB game. He eventually made it back to the majors to spend 15 of his 16 seasons with the Reds, making it to two All-Star games.

    Nuxhall retired from the Reds in 1967 and began a career as a broadcaster. He became a staple of Reds' radio broadcasts until he retired in 2004, although he continued to make guest appearances.
