  • Storyline

    Tom Cruise plays the title character Jerry Maguire, an aspiring sports manager. After a stressful breakdown he drafts a mission statement, detailing the ugly side of the sports management industry, which he distributes to the fellow agents in his firm. Although he is applauded for finally saying what everyone has been thinking, he is fired for the document, which alleges that agents do not care about their players, that they are lacking the personal commitment that should come with the job. Jerry decides to start his own sports management company, and takes one of his former coworkers with him, Dorothy Boyd, played by Renee Zellweger. Jerry must start from scratch, as he lost all of his former clients when he lost his job. Jerry is forced to balance his agent duties with personal relationships with his clients, as well as the romantic relationship that has developed between him and Dorothy.
