Jamie Lidell is a UK based soul singer and producer. Lidell fuses old-fashioned soul music with modern techno to create a unique sound.
His 2005 album Multiply was met with great critical acclaim, despite taking audiences by surprise. Up until the album's release, Lidell was best known for his collaboration with electronic music producer and experimental DJ Cristian Vogel with whom Lidell recorded and toured as the act Super_Collider. Lidell's 2008 follow-up album Jim is expected to push his soul sound even further.
In addition to his recordings, Lidell is known for his energetic live performances during which he creates tracks by layering multiple vocal samples over each other. Popular music site Brooklyn Vegan wrote that Lidell's live performances, "make audiences pretty divisive, which is fine by me—love it or hate it, that's up to you. I happen to think he's on some genius-level-sh@t myself..."
