History
It is not exactly known when the Polynesians first settled on what is now Honolulu, but it was Kamehameha III in 1845 who moved the capital of Hawaii from Maui to Honolulu, establishing the city as a cultural and commercial center.On December 7, 1941, nearby Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japanese planes, leading to the United States' entry into World War II.

Honolulu is the busiest city in the state, with many businesses and high-rise buildings scattered throughout. The biggest source of the city and state's economy is tourism.Waikiki, a neighborhood of Honolulu, has become the tourism center of Hawaii over the years, with many hotels lined along Waikiki Beach. Famous attractions in or around Honolulu include 'Iolani Palace, Bishop Museum, Diamond Head and the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.
Kailua is on the windward side of the island known for it's popular beaches.
