Husband to Marge and father of Bart, Lisa and Maggie, Homer Simpson embodies many American working-class stereotypes: He is crude, selfish, addicted to TV, overweight, clumsy, prone to explosive and often baseless outbursts of anger, has below average intelligence, and is a borderline alcoholic. Despite his many shortcomings, he has proven himself to be a loyal friend, and a surprisingly loving husband and father.

Dan Castellaneta, the voice actor who portrays Homer Simpson, aptly describes him as "a dog trapped in a man's body. He's incredibly loyal—not entirely clean—but you gotta love him."
