• Insurance Capital

  Hartford is sometimes called the "insurance capital of the world" because insurance is the region's major industry, and many insurance companies have their headquarters in Hartford. Aetna, CIGNA and The Hartford are based out of Hartford, CT.

• Capital Building

  The Connecticut State Capital building is located near Bushnell Park. The building was designed by Richard M. Upjohn in 1891, who was also the designer of the Massachusetts State House. The gothic style building was restored between 1979 and 1989. The building is topped off with a gold leaf dome, and is circled by 12 statues. The building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970.
