  • NHL Career

    Sanderson was drafted 36th overall in the 1990 NHL draft by the Hartford Whalers. He continued to play for his junior team, the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League, before joining the Whalers for his NHL debut in 1991. In 1997, Sanderson relocated with the franchise as they became the Carolina Hurricanes. The following year, on January 3, 1998, he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks. He played just nine games in Vancouver before he was sent to the Buffalo Sabres. On June 23, 2000, Sanderson was claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL expansion draft. He played three seasons with the Blue Jackets, then was sent back to the Canucks on March 9, 2004. Just over three months later, the Canucks waived Sanderson and he was picked up by the Blue Jackets. He played for the HC Geneve-Servette in Switzerland during the 2004-05 NHL lockout, then was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes on October 8, 2005. Sanderson entered the free agency after the 2005-06 season and signed with the Philadelphia Flyers on July 19, 2006. After one season, the Flyers traded Sanderson to the Edmonton Oilers on July 1, 2007.
