  • History

Gawker differs from similar companies in that it tends not to hire bloggers, per se, but often hires professional (or professional-quality) writers for the personalities they bring to the sites, and whose expertise on their subjects may be largely gained on the job. Several Gawker alumni, such as Choire Sicha of Gawker.com and Ana Marie Cox of Wonkette, have gained greater career notoriety since leaving the Gawker fold.

In April, 2008, Gawker Media announced that they were selling three of their under performing blogs, which include Gridskipper, Idolator, and Wonkette.Gawker.com: Gawker.com
