• Devo is band from Akron, Ohio, formed in 1974. Mongoloid is a song about Down syndrome. The song says he had "one chromosome too many"; people with down syndrome have an extra chromosome 21. The word "Mongoloid" has been used in the past, ever since the Langdon Down described it in 1866. Down theorized that the disease was a reversion back into the Mongolian race. Because of the racism involved in the use of the word, Mongoloid it is no longer used in most English speaking countries.
