The Bad Boys
The Pistons drafted point guard Isiah Thomas in 1981 and acquired center Bill Laimbeer and guard Vinnie Johnson in 1982. Over the course of the 80s, the team would add more pieces and developed a rough and physical style of play, earning them the nickname "Bad Boys." After many near misses in the playoffs for years, the Pistons finally reached the NBA Finals in 1988. They would lose to the Lakers in seven games. The Pistons and Lakers would meet again in the 1989 Finals, but this time it was the Pistons who took the series in four games. Detroit would win the championship a second time in 1990 over the Portland Trail Blazers.Ownership
