• Delaware's three electoral votes in 2008 went to the winning Democratic ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. The state has typically voted for Democrats in the recent past, with John Kerry, Al Gore and Bill Clinton all winning there. (Clinton won both times he ran). Democrat Jack Markell, currently the state's Treasurer, was elected to replace outgoing Governor Ruth Ann Minner. Minner has servied two full terms in office (and is the first female governor in America to do so), and therefore must step down in 2009 due to term limit rules.
