• Del Mar Racetrack History

  The Del Mar Racetrack was built on the Del Mar Fairgrounds in 1936. The land was purchased for $25,000 from the State Department of Fairs & Expositions. Actors and horse racing enthusiasts Bing Crosby and Pat O'Brien helped fund the track's construction and were members of the Del Mar's board of directors. • Seabiscuit vs. Ligaroti

  Seabiscuit was a popular American thoroughbred race horse. On August 12, 1938, a race between Seabiscuit and another thoroughbred named Ligaroti brought Del Mar national attention.
