• Adoption Advocate

  Deborra-Lee Furness is an advocate for adoption. Furness founded the lobby group "Orphan Angels" in an attempt to change Australia's adoption laws. Furness and husband Hugh Jackman moved to the U.S. to adopt their two children, Oscar and Ava, after finding it extremely difficult to adopt in Australia. Furness gave this statement concerning her adoption attempt, "We've experienced it first-hand. We tried to adopt in Australia and couldn't because we were overwhelmed by the hurdles and obstacles they put in our way." She went on to say that "It breaks my heart to think there are thousands of abandoned children overseas waiting for loving families to take them, but the Government is making it so hard." Furness and Jackman adopted their son Oscar in May 2000 and their daughter Ava in July 2005.
