In
Dead Space, Necromorphs are the infected enemies protagonist Isaac Clarke encounters on the spaceship Ishimura. The Necromorphs are deceased human bodies that have been taken over by an alien virus that uses their bodies and morphs them into various monstrous forms. Breeds of Necromorphs are varied, from the Slasher with two large blades protruding out of its back to the Lurker which inhabits the dead bodies of children and has several deadly tentacles.
[IGN: Dead Space Necromorph Feature (September 25, 2008)] Infectors are the Necromorph creatures that spread the disease by flying and attacking living humans. Necromorphs cannot be defeated simply by shooting them in the head or chest, but must be methodically dismembered first, by shooting off their arms and legs.
