American Idol contestant David Cook was taken to a Los Angeles hospital on April 1, 2008, after his blood pressure spiked and he had heart palpitations. The incident occurred after Cook performed that evening on American Idol.
Although the condition is reportedly unresolved Cook was released from the hospital a few hours after arriving and returned to the Idol apartments. Speculation is that the illness was brought on by Cook being stressed over brother, Adam Cook, having a set-back in his health due to having cancer.
