• National Hockey League all-star forward Dany Heatley plays on the Ottawa Senators. Heatley competed internationally for Canada in the 2000 and 2001 World Junior Championships and played in every World Championship tournament from 2002 through 2005.

• NHL Career

  Heatley was drafted as the second overall choice by the Atlanta Thrashers during the first round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He joined the Thrashers for the 2001-2002 season, during which he earned 67 points to set a new franchise record for points in a rookie season and also captured the NHL's rookie of the year award, the Calder Cup.

  Heatley increased his point count to 89 the following season, proving himself as one of the League's top scorers. During the summer of 2003, Heatley was involved in a car accident that killed his teammate and friend, Dan Snyder. After undergoing rehabilitation for injuries he sustained in the accident, Heatley joined the Thrashers for the last 31 games of the 2003-2004 season.

  Prior to the 2005-2006 season, Heatley was traded to the Ottawa Senators, where he would record two consecutive 50-goal seasons to become the first player in franchise history to do so and the first player in league history since Pavel Bure did it in 1999-2000. Early in the 2007-2008 season, Heatley signed a six-year contract extension with the Senators worth $45 million.
