• Early Career

  Prior to his film career Cooper graduated from the University of Missouri. He then moved to New York City to pursue acting. In 1987 he starred in the historical drama film Matewan. Cooper followed up with small roles in several television shows like Miami Vice, The Equalizer and on the Lonesome Dove mini-series.

• Mainstream Roles

  Cooper went on to appear in several feature films including Money Train in 1995, Lone Star in 1996 and The Horse Whisperer in 1998. He starred in two highly successful films in 1999, October Sky and American Beauty. The following year he appeared alongside Mel Gibson in The Patriot. He opened his first of three roles in The Bourne Film Series in 2002 with The Bourne Identity. Also in 2002, Cooper won an Academy Award for his role in Adaptation.
