• Early Career

  Prior to her acting career Keener attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts. After graduation she worked for a casting agent, first in New York City then in Los Angeles. It was shortly after the move to L.A. that she decided that she wanted to pursue acting. Her first acting role came in the 1986 film The Education of Allison Tate. Keener continued with small roles in several films and a guest spot on Seinfeld in 1992. She starred with Brad Pitt in the 1991 independent film Johnny Suede, which also earned her a Spirit Award.

• Mainstream Career

  In 1999, Keener starred in the quirky film Being John Malkovich. The role earned her an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination in 2000. She went on to star in The Interpreter and the highly successful comedy The 40 Year Old Virgin in 2005. Keener earned her second Oscar nomination for her role in Capote. In 2007, she starred alongside Emile Hirsch in the Oscar nominated film Into the Wild.
