Life and Career
Cate Blanchett was born in Australia. Her mother was a teacher and her father was in the United States Navy. Her father died of a heart attack when she was ten years old.She attended the National Institute of Dramatic Art to study acting and began working in the theater after graduation. She then began working in films and got her big break when she starred as Queen Elizabeth I in Shekar Kapur's film 'Elizabeth.
After that she gained more acclaim and audience attention for her roles as Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator and Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings films. She won an Oscar for the former film, which was directed by Martin Scorsese.
