  • History

    In 1885, Democratic representative John Armstrong introduced a bill into the Thirteenth Territorial Legislature to establish a territorial normal school at Tempe. He envisioned a college that would train public school teachers and teach agriculture and the mechanical arts. The bill was passed and twenty acres of land was donated which is now the core of the original campus.Arizona State University: History
