  • Health Problems

Although a generally healthy breed, American staffordshire terriers may face hip problems. They may also suffer from eye problems such as cataracts and heart problems such as congenital heart disease.
  • Sports or Activities

Originally bred for dog fighting, the breed has also been used in farming and hunting. Many families keep American staffordshire terriers as guard dogs. Although they are not naturally aggressive, they can be forceful without proper discipline. This possibility of aggression makes them a poor choice for families with children.
