Alexander Graham Bell was a famous scientist and inventor best known for his invention of the telephone. Bell's quest to find devices that would assist both his mother and wife, who were both deaf, led to his experimentation with sound. Bell's credited with 18 other patents in his name alone and 12 shared with other inventors.

- 1862: Moves to London to live with his grandfather
- 1864: Attends the University of Edinburgh
- 1866: Starst teaching in Bath
- 1867: Brother, Edward Bell, dies of tuberculosis
- 1870: Older brother, Melville also dies of tuberculosis
- 1874: Conceives the idea of the telephone
- 1877: Marries Mabel Hubbard
- 1892: Participates in the organization of a long distance call from New York City to Chicago
- 1897: Elected President to the National Geographic Society
- 1922: Bell dies at Beinn Bhreagh, Nova Scotia
