Ale is a fermented alcoholic beverage blend of water, yeast, barley and malt. It is characterized by its strong and bitter flavor. Ales are brought to higher temperatures than lagers, the temperatures allow more secondary flavors to evolve, similar to apple, pineapple, plum and other flavors. Another major difference between ales and lagers is the yeast reaction in an ale normally takes place on the top of the barrel, while lagers yeast reaction takes place at the bottom.
