• About Alcorn State University

  Originally Oakland College, Alcorn State University occupied the site once Oakland closed its doors at the beginning of the Civil War. The property was sold to the state of Mississippi and was renamed Alcorn. In 1878, the university's name changed to Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College and was set to focus more on becoming a trade school and less on being a college.
