University History
Virginia Commonwealth University can be traced back to Hampton-Sydney College, which was founded in 1838. Hampton-Sydney College became the Medical College of Virginia in 1954. Virginia Commonwealth University was officially formed in 1968, when the Medical College of Virginia merged with the Richmond Professional Institute. It has since become the largest university in the state of Virginia, with nearly 32,000 students.Official Site: About VCU
