On April 3, 2009, A Virgin Blue airplane on its way to Launceston, Tasmania, was struck by lightening several times and was forced to return to Melbourne.     On the afternoon of April 3, 2009, a Virgin Blue flight was struck by lightening numerous times after departing Melbourne. The flight was en route to Launceton, Tasmania, with 117 passengers and crew on board.
