  • Vince Papale is a former NFL wide receiver for Philadelphia Eagles.

    In 1974, Papale, a bartender and substitute teacher, tried out for and made the World Football League's Philadelphia Bell. Eagles coach Dick Vermeil invited Papale to try out for his team after seeing Papale's performance. Papale made the Eagles at age 30, the oldest rookie in the NFL not to come out of college (minus kickers). From 1976 to 1978, Papale played in 41 of 44 regular season games. He recorded two fumble recoveries and one 15-yard reception. He was forced to retire in 1979 due to a shoulder injury. After football, Papale worked as a TV and radio broadcaster for eight years before becoming a commercial mortgage banker.
