Brief Biography
Hall of fame coach, Vince Lombardi started his coaching career after graduating Fordham University at the high school level, in Englewood, New Jersey at St. Cecilia, a Catholic high school. Lombardi, then, was an assistant at the United States Military Academy under legendary coach Red Blake, he was later hired as an assistant coach with the New York Giants, where we worked along side another assistant coach, the legendary Tom Landry. In 1959, he took the job as head coach and general manager of the Green Bay Packers. Over the next 9 seasons, he would win 5 National Football League championships, winning 3 in a row, and he also won the first two Super Bowl games in NFL history. After 1 year in retirement, he came back to coach the Washington Redskins to their first winning season in 25 years in 1969, but died from intestinal cancer just prior to the start of the 1970 season.
