Vince Lamar Carter was born in Daytona Beach, Florida on January 26, 1977. He attended Mainland High School, where he was touted as a highly coveted prospect and a McDonald's All-American. After an outstanding college career he went on to play for North Carolina, under Dean Smith. He was apart of the “Six Starters” rotation that also included players such as, Antawn Jamison, Shammond Williams, Ed Cota, Ademola Okulaja and Makhtar N’diaye. Vince became the second collegiate athlete to have a website dedicated to him. Vince then entered the NBA Draft in 1998 and was drafted by the Golden State Warriors, with the fifth overall pick.
Vince Carter 2009-10 Season
In the 2009-2010 season Vince Carter played for the Orlando Magic. He got traded on the day of the draft for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee. He has made the Orlando Magic have a complete different look than the 2009 team that went to the NBA Finals. Someone who brings experience and that “Closer” mentality. He has helped the Magic to a 59-23 record and a second seed in the Eastern Conference. He has been the Magic’s primary starting shooting guard, starting in 74 games and playing in 75 games total. He has averaged 16.6 points per game and 3.9 rebounds a game.
Career Highlights
In 1999, he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year as well as the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In 2000 Vince Carter won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. He has also been elected to the NBA All-Star team eight times and has a two time All-NBA selection.
Pro Career
Carter was selected with the fifth pick in the 1998 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors, but then was immediately traded to the Toronto Raptors for fellow University of North Carolina teammate Antawn Jamison. He would establish himself as an elite player winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. In 2000, he would be selected to his first All-Star Game, and during All-Star Weekend would win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. In the years following he would continue his All-Star caliber play and become the Raptors franchise player.
In 2004, frustrated with the team's mediocre play Carter demanded and was granted a trade to the New Jersey Nets for centers Alonzo Mourning, Aaron Williams, and forward Eric Williams.
