Viggo Mortensen is an actor, poet and musician best known for his performances in the Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings Film Series and David Cronenberg'sEastern Promises.
Early life and career
Viggo spent much of his childhood in Argentina with his American mother and Danish father, who managed farms and ranches. His parents divorced when he was 11, and Viggo moved to Copenhagen, Denmark with his father. After returning to the US for high school, Viggo began work as a truck driver in Denmark, but ultimately came back to the US to attend St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. He majored in Spanish but also participated in a lot of theater during this time.Mortensen was featured in a number of films during the 1990s as a supporting actor, but his breakthrough moment came when he was cast as a replacement for Stuart Townsend in the role of Aragorn in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings.
