A filmmaking montage is a group of short film shots moving in rapid succession across a screen to illustrate an idea or mood while condensing space, time and information.
Background
For 20 years, a filmmaking montage was edited with optical effects and often caused a whole script to be rewritten. Today, montage shots are simply sequential images with little or no editing moving rapidly across the screen with a creative musical background to produce mood or emphasize a message. Montages are very often used in sports training videos. [1]
