Victorian Christmas Decorations
Have you noticed how people often seem to become nostalgic when it comes to home decorating for Christmas? Wonderful pictures of Victorian villages under the snow with kids waiting for Saint-Nicholas; carolers singing Christmas carols ; views of families gathered together to decorate the Christmas tree ; people sitting in front of the fire, drinking a winter beverage make us feel merry. http://itsxmastime.comHistory
- Victorian Christmas decorations are often thought to be British and it is not false but they actually originated in Germany: Albert of Saxe Coburg-Gotha, Queen Victoria's spouse, brought the first Christmas tree his home country to Windsor Castle around 1850.
- When Brits saw this gorgeous tree wearing wonderful decorations, they decided that if the tree was appreciated by the Queen they loved so much, it would have been good for them too.
- The Advent wreath originates from Germany as well and entered British traditions not long ago after the Christmas tree.
- The Victorian Christmas wreath was made of evergreen and four candles; which represented penance, sorrow, expectation, hope and joy.
- Victorian Christmas decorations consist in ribbons, candlelights, pine cones, dried fruits and many other homemade decorations.

Decorate the Home with Victorian Christmas Decorations
Crystal looking garlands made out of ruby-colored glass beaded balls, to hang on the Christmas tree along with little music instruments. Perhaps a tin tree topper in the form of a star decorated with a scene right out of a Norman Rockwell painting or a gold and silver foil angel shimmering in the soft lights of the pine scented tree.
A handmade garland of popcorn hanged on the tree along with crystal icicles glowing by the light of burning candles. Small handmade decorations that look like wrapped gifts and glass, tin, or silver and/or gold decorations that look like fruits.
Not so long ago, people would have used miniature candles placed in holders to illuminate the Christmas tree... Since this practice has proven to be a rather risky fire hazard there are many other options available that give the old timey candle look without the open fire.
