The largest waterfall in the world, Victoria Falls is located between the African nations of Zambia and Zimbabwe. The falls are created by the plummet of the Zambezi River over a wide basalt cliff to a series of deep gorges over 100 meters below. The unique geography of Victoria Falls allows viewers to get a virtually complete view of the falls from as close as 200 feet away. At the height of flood season, over 546 million cubic meters of water flow over the falls every minute. The falls have been designated both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Natural Wonders of the world.
Since the falls are one of Africa's most popular tourist destinations, both Zambia and Zimbabwe have designated national parks to protect the falls. The nearby cities of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Livingstone in Zambia act as tourist centers.
