VH1 is a cable television station affiliated with MTV and owned by Viacom. VH1 was launched four years after MTV. VH1 was originally conceived as a softer alternative to MTV's rock lineup and played music videos. In recent years the station has shifted its focus and now creates and runs an abundance of reality show programming and countdown shows.
