Boxer Vernon Forrest was a welterweight and light middleweight champion. In June of 2008, he lost his title to The Contender winner Sergio Mora, and reclaimed the same title from Mora in September of that year.
On the evening of July 25, 2009, Forrest was shot to death at a gas station near Downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Police believe he was the victim of an attempted robbery.
