Vera Farmiga is an American actress who has appeared in the Fox TV series Roar and the Martin Scorsese Oscar-nominated film The Departed. Farmiga is also well-known for her appearances in the movies Up in the Air and Orphan. She is nominated for a 2010 Oscar for her supporting role in Up in the Air. Early Life
Vera Ann Farmiga was born in Passaic County, New Jersey on August 6, 1973 and attended Hunterdon Central Regional High School. She then attended Syracuse University where she studied acting. She made her Broadway debut in the play Taking Sides where she then went into the acting realm.
Film Career
After Farmiga's success on stage, her television and film career would begin with guest appearances on TV shows and featured performances in films such as Return to Paradise and 15 Minutes. She then established herself as a reliable and solid character actress in films such as Iron Jawed Angels with Hilary Swank and The Manchurian Candidate with Denzel Washington. In 2006, Farmiga starred in two high profile films, Running Scared starring Paul Walker and the Academy Award Winning picture The Departed directed by Martin Scorsese. The two films firmly established Farmiga as a popular leading actress.
