Vanity Fair's annual "New Hollywood" edition features actresses expected to be the biggest stars in the coming year. The March 2010 "New Hollywood" issue was widely criticized by bloggers because the women on the cover were all "thin" and "white." The actresses on the cover include Kristen Stewart (of Twilight fame), Mia Wasikowska (from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland), Emma Stone, Evan Rachel Wood, Anna Kendrick, Carey Mulligan, Amanda Seyfried, Rebecca Hall and Abbie Cornish. http://www.nbclosangeles.com/entertainment/movies/Vanity-Fairs-Hollywood-is-Skinny-White-Female-83464507.html
Lack of Diversity?
When the new Vanity Fair cover was featured on the magazine's website in early February 2010, several bloggers and online media outlets slammed the magazine for it's "lack of diversity." LifeLineLive blogger Ann Oldenburg for USAToday.com notes that bloggers asked questions like, "Where are any women of color? Gabourey Sidibe, for example, who just got an Oscar nomination for Precious? Or Frieda Pinto from Slumdog millionaire? Some bloggers have called the Vanity Fair "New Hollywood" issue "racist."http://www.bolt.com/forum/topics/the-new-hollywood-is-deemedhttp://content.usatoday.com/communities/entertainment/post/2010/02/vanity-fair-criticized-for-lack-of-diversity-/1
