Vanilla Ice

Vanilla Ice, aka Robert Matthew Van Winkle, was born on October 31, 1967, in Dallas, Texas. Vanilla Ice is a former rap star who started his career with the release of his first album, Hooked in 1989 through independent label Ichiban Records. It was successful for an independent release, selling 48,000 copies. Ice boosted his career with his smash hit, Ice Ice Baby in 1990.

Vanilla Ice was arrested on April 10, 2008, for alleged battery on his wife, Laura Van Winkle. He was taken to Palm Beach County Jail.

In March of 2009, Ice issued an "apology" on YouTube for the song "Ice Ice Baby." Appearing as "Rob van Winkle," he says that, though the single sold 40 million copies, he regrets his personal style from the era - including his trademark pompadour haircut and baggy pants - the sometimes violent messages included in his work, and the songs themselves.
