Vanilla Ice, aka Robert Matthew Van Winkle, was born on October 31, 1967 in Dallas, Texas. Vanilla Ice is a former rap star who started his career with the release of his first album, Hooked, in 1989 through independent label Ichiban Records. It was successful for an independent release selling 48,000 copies. Vanilla Ice boosted his career with his smash hit, Ice Ice Baby in 1990. Vanilla Ice's success was short lived and his rapid fall from popularity is one of the most notorious in the American music industry. Vanilla ice has continued in the music industry, but hasn't made a miraculous comeback with any of his recent music endeavors. Vanilla Ice was arrested on April 10, 2008 for alleged battery on his wife, Laura Van Winkle. He was taken to Palm Beach County Jail.
