Vanessa Williams is an actress, singer, model. In 1983 Williams became the first African American woman to be crowned Miss America. Williams' reign came to an abrupt end when nude photographs taken prior to her pageant win led to a scandal and her subsequent resignation of the title. Williams rebounded by launching a career as an entertainer, earning Grammy, Emmy, and Tony award recognition.
