Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks play in the Northwest division of the NHL's Western Conference. Despite winning the Western Conference Championships in 1982 and 1994, they have never won the Stanley Cup. The team was originally founded as part of the Pacific Coast Hockey League in 1945. They won the PCHL championship six times, including during their inaugural season. The Canucks attempted to join the NHL during the 1967 expansion that doubled the league from six to twelve teams, but were declined entry. The Canucks were finally granted entry into the NHL in 1970 after paying a reported $6 million franchise fee.

Pre Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks were once known as the Vancouver Millionairs. They played in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association from 1911-1922, winning the Stanley Cup in 1915.

2009/10 Season

The Vancouver Canucks finished the 09/10 season with 103 points, and won the Northwest division to be seeded 3rd in the Western Conference. The Canucks scored an impressive 272 goals during the season, second only to the high-flying Washington Capitals. Their impressive home record, 30-8-3, helped push them to 49 wins for the season.

It was also an impressive season for a number of individual Canucks. Alex Burrows led the team with a career high 35 goals, and Mikael Samuelsson set a career high with 30. But the real star of the season was Henrik Sedin who captured the first Art Ross Trophy in Canucks history, as the NHL's leading scorer. Henrik's 112 were a franchise record, and was three points better than Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby.

'"Playoffs"' The Canucks opened the 2010 NHL Playoffs against the Los Angeles Kings. After a tough battle, the Canucks eliminated the Kings in 6 games with a 4-2 win in LA.

2008/09 Season

The Vancouver Canucks finished the 2008/09 season with 100 points and won the Northwest division to be seeded 3rd in the NHL Playoffs. It was a good year for the Canucks, who won 45 games and were led by twins Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin. The brothers each finished the season with 82 points, and some new found chemistry with linemate Alex Burrows. It was a close battle for the division title, with the Canucks battling the Calgary Flames throughout the season. But three game winning streak to close out the regular season was enough to claim the top spot.

It was a career year for a number of Canucks players. Burrows scored 28 goals (his previous career high was 12), and added 23 assists as he emerged as a legitimate scoring threat. Ryan Kesler contributed 26 goals and 33 assists, both career highs, as his development into a solid second-line center appears complete. Kyle Wellwood, a reclamation project after being picked up on waivers also contributed an unexpected 18 goals.
