Valero Texas Open

The Velaro Texas Open started in 1922, and is an official tournament on the PGA Tour. It was renamed from Texas Open to Valero Texas Open when Valero Energy Corporation got the naming rights in 2002. The tournament is held every year in May and the winner gets more than $1,000,000.

Background

The event has always found place in San Antonio, but is has not always been at the La Cantera Golf Club. From the founding in 1922 until 1994 is was played at different places, e.g. Brackenridge Park Golf Course, Willow Springs Golf Course and Oak Hills Country Club. In 2010 the tournament will be replaced with the AT&T Oak Course.

Zach Johnson is the most recent winner, and has won the last two times. The only one to win the event three years in a row is Arnold Palmer in 1960-1962.http://golf.about.com/od/progolftours/p/texas_open.htm
